I had a very difficult pregnancy this time around. So to put it lightly I could not wait for it to be over and to meet my daughter for the first time. I developed Gestational Diabetes, which made the last couple of months absolutely miserable! Babies born to mothers with gestational diabetes are usually born a lot bigger, so my OB felt it would be beneficial for me and the baby to have a scheduled C-Section. I was terrified but was willing to do whatever would allow our little Angel to arrive safely. And as big as my belly was I swear she was going to come out 15 lbs plus!
When the day arrived it was very surreal. We got ready to go to the hospital and on the drive there I could not believe in just a few short hours our daughter would bless our lives. I was so nervous! I am the BIGGEST baby in the world and was not looking forward to all of the pain I had in my future. But I put on a brave face not to worry my mom and others.
The Dr. was late, which made me get even more nervous laying there just thinking about being cut in half! But when she arrived everything moved very quickly. I can't believe how fast the whole process goes. I would have to say that the procedure wasn't painful at all beside the chattering of my teeth, I was shacking so bad as if I was standing naked in the North Pole, but as soon as I saw her adorable bloody little face for the first time my heart melted!
Of course I had to give birth on the busiest day the hospital has had in months and there were no rooms for me to go to after recovery. 4 hours later I finally had a room and was able to see my beautiful baby girl. Since this was my second I really didn't mind the extra rest I got in recovery, but a first time mommy right next to me was crying the entire time wanting to see her baby and it broke my heart.
Bud and I had not made up our minds on what to name our little girl... 6 hours into life she was still nameless! I just couldn't settle for just any name... it had to be perfect. We thought of naming her after my grandma, Ava... but she just did not look like an Ava to me. Payton and Madilynn were also on the list but they just didn't fit either. We finally decided on Alyssa Taylor Smith. I really wanted to name her Taylor, but having a Tyler and a Taylor would just get too confusing! So I settled on having that be her middle name. It's so fitting now because her classic beauty reminds me so much of Elizabeth Taylor. And Alyssa was recommended by Mom. It grew on me while watching The Notebook one day while I was majorly preggo and emotional. I just loved the name Ally in the movie and thought if we named her Alyssa her nickname could be Ally.
So Alyssa Taylor it was!
